The Maya Angelou academy is a charter school located within the New Beginnings Youth Development Center and serves students who have been adjudicated. The curriculum is aligned with standards for the District of Columbia and divided into one-month units for which students are given 1/8th of a credit for each unit. Each classroom consists of 10-15 students with two instructors per room. The curriculum is designed specifically to aid students in overcoming challenges to learning. Additionally, the curriculum is designed to help students acquire credits toward graduation and build skills for long-term success.
